1974 Rolex Submariner Date “Red” (1680)

Introduced in the late 1960’s, the Rolex Ref. 1680 introduced a new function to the venerable Submariner lineup – a date function! To help differentiate the new model, Rolex chose to highlight the model name in red on the dial for the first few years, which has made these “Red Subs” very valuable and collectable! This watch, dating to 1974, features its original “Mark IV” dial. The lume is in excellent condition and matches evenly in a warm vanilla tone. There is a chip on the outer edge of the dial around the 8:00 marker and another small nick around 4:00 visible under magnification. The watch was just fully serviced and includes its original 9315 bracelet with 380 end links – complete with the “Pateted” spelling error on the diver’s extension! The hands were re-lumed at some point in the past and still react under UV light. All in, an honest vintage Rolex that a collector can be proud of – and can be worn and enjoyed!
